Fire Flys That Can Last In a Jar Forever

One of my favorite blogs IkeaHacker.com featured a cute way to Get that antuque light fixture look that harkens back to the days of catching fire flys in jars except this way you dont wake up this next morning with a jar full of dead bugs. With just a few simple light bulb configurations and a fell Ball Mason Jars which are like 1$ a piece, and youve got yourself a chich vintage looking chandelier that you wont find in any store. and the great part about this is that IKEA sells energy efficient halogen bulbs so you wont break the bank.

Just a little elbow... paint!

AFTER>>>

BEFORE>>>

On cococozy.com they had an article that featured Jill Sorensen's her attempt at refurbishing old furniture. Jill Sorensen is most commonly known for her work with Marmalade Interiors. She used an ingenious method of making various pieces math each other buy adding some coats of white paint. In doing so she managed to tone down the wide array of styles of each item that she chose blending them together nicely in to now matching pieces. Her simple use of chic fabrics and contemporary coloring is a testament to Contemerary design; less is more! This also goes to show you that you dont need to be a desgn genius and you dont have to be a furnature refurbishing expert to fix up some of those cool pieces you have laying around your late grand-parents house.

Dont Ply For Me Argentina

Plywood Chair by Sisto Tallini

Check Him Our Here--->TALLINIDESIGN

Most of the population would agree that a chair made completely out of plywood would not be very comfortable. But Sisto Tallini is not most people. created while he was in graduate school using nothing more than a few sheets of ordinary plywood laminated together and cut with a CNC machine (for those of you that don't know what that is Computer Numerically Controlled to cut extremely precise measurements and dimensions in order to achieve the most exact duplicate copies of such materials as carved wood or metal) The loops are what create the cushion like feel as the wood as some slight flexibility to adjust to the contour of the personsbody...May still need a little cushion if your planning on sitting in it for an extended play time of Call of Duty: Black Ops.

LOVE IS IN THE chAIR

Heart Cone Chair by Verner Panton
in the spirit of valentines day ChairBlog.com has plenty of examples of Valentine's Day themed chairs; this one being my favorite. its called the "Heart Cone Chair" by, the one and only, Verner Panton, known best for the Panton Chair show below. Now, I'm definitely a fan of themed furniture as long as they keep it classy and this is one of those chairs. From this angle its hard not to see the recognizable heart shape and it also has a wonderful cone shape which gives you the feeling that the chair is hugging you (how romantic). now obviously in this color you cant help but realize its a heard but had it been upholstered in black leather or pattern fabric it may take on a completely different persona. This is an example of what not to do---->

Cast from the Past

0clevart015.jpg
I just came across some great pieces of furniture by Cleveland Art which, featured in an article on Core77 yesterday. I love this design house because they have and industrial spin and have succeeded in a market that is quite saturated at this time; the refurbishing and repurposing of old furniture and tools. Their take on "recycled industrial design" is rugged yet elegant and the variety of products is extremely expansive ranging from lighting to storage and clothing racks.0clevart013.jpg

Comfort (and music) in the Familiar

Featured on MOCOLOCO.com, The Roots Rock Speaker-bag by House of Marley designs is an excellent example of how using a product familiar to a spacific group helps us find comfort in what we are buying. The downfall of many of the similarly featured iPod docks is that they lack differenciation

Beauty Comes From Strange Places...

Furniture by Michael Stolworthy was featured in an article on Core77.com. This article features a few examples of his work which is both elegant and fluid as well as rigid and industrial. This can be said about many designers in the industrial field but what sets him apart from the others is his unconventional inspiration for his designs. The reason for the liquid like look and his use of metals stems from his educational background consisting of "... advanced organic modeling techniques, dynamically driven surfaces, 3-d animation, media arts, arboriculture & horticultural science." as well as "3-d models of human skeletal structures with rapid prototyping technology for pre-surgical diagnosis." the article can be seen here... 1.21 gigawatts...BUT still no place to sit :(

Ive always had an affinity for wire frame cars because it emphasizes the art of the behind car design. in a photo gallery of the 2010 detroit auto show featured on Core77.com I saw that lexus had a display of their flagship super car the LF-A in wire frame split in half, placed on a rolling chasis. This TRON-like cutaway display is an excellent way of displaying the suspension and other internals while still emphasizing the intricate beauty of the car. See more pictures at this link... http://www.core77.com/gallery/detroit-auto-show-2010/113.asp
